UAE-US joint fund to bolster agriculture against climate change doubles to $17 bln

Speaking to Al Arabiya English on the sidelines of COP28, Ertharin Cousin, CEO of Food Systems for the Future, is spearheading a $55 million circular animal feed and biofertilizer system in Rwanda.

To be launched in 2025, it is Africa’s first automated insect protein facility in Kigali to convert organic waste into feed and biofertilizer, boosting sustainable nutrition and reducing Rwanda’s reliance on soy feed and chemicals.

Consequently, it will support the poultry and aquaculture industry’s ability to produce affordable and accessible protein while also reducing carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.

As the former executive director of the World Food Programme and the former US ambassador for food and agriculture, Cousin said she wanted to scale up businesses supporting better access to nutritious food.
