Abstract:
Stem borer is one of the most dangerous insects for the expansion of mango growing areas in Vietnam. In order to control mango stem borer, the study focused on selecting and identifying entomopathogenic fungi strains. As a result, two entomopathogenic fungi parasitic in stem borers were successfully isolated. Molecular identification showed that 2 selected parasitic fungi strains were Metarhizium anisopliae AS2 and Beauveria bassiana AS1. These two fungi species exhibited high cellulase and chitinase activities. The combination of these isolated fungi strains with Bacillus thuringiensis BA3 showed higher efficiency in controlling the mango stem borers than that in single strains. This study could provide a scientific basis for further testing of biological control of mango stem borers.
