Why is there so much focus on the bio-product market these days and why does it seem there are so many more new products in this market compared to traditional inputs like fertilizers or pesticides?
Partially, it is in the name. “Bio” is often thought of as a more natural input as opposed to a hard fertilizer or pesticide chemistry. As a result, the overall consumer perspective of these products tends to be positive, driving industry interest to integrate these tools into modern production systems.
More importantly, there is currently no United States federal regulatory policy specific to the bio-product market. Like fertilizer products, bio-products are labeled at the state level. This lack of a federally established regulatory pathway is largely why there are so many new bio-products coming to market, and why the terminology used to describe them can vary.
